TiVo sign up emails ahoy!

Got mine...got yours?
Also, the 500Gb TiVo is confirmed for May 16th launch: £49.95, £40 install, £3 a month. Existing customers only.

UPDATE: Although the system at VM now seems to be okay and people are reporting that they're getting install dates, I didn't get one ("system problems") and was promised a call back in the next few hours. Anyone else get this? I'm still waiting and I have a horrible feeling I'm now at the back of the queue. If I call them of course, I'll be on hold for a while...

Further Update:
Decided to ring Virgin rather than wait any longer for a call back. I was told that I would not hear back from them UNTIL MONDAY 18th, even though I called first thing this morning. When I told the woman at the call centre that I knew people who had called after me this morning had been given install dates this week she told me MAYBE BY FRIDAY I would get a call back.
Sorry Virgin Media, that is AWFUL. Train your operators. Pathetic.

Update on the further update:
Once I calmed down, I called Virgin again. Straight through to a chap called Chris, who gave me a date straight away for my install (21st - offered me earlier but the Thursday is better for me). What really realy riles me though is that my call just a few minutes earlier was so poorly handled and I was completely misinformed. How many other willing customers are similarly being brushed away???!!

  1. I'm a vip50 customer and registered TiVo interest ages back but never got the email a couple of weeks back and haven't had one today.

What's the content? Basically can we book from today? If so Is there a tel number or website address I can use?

  2. i called them this morning, got told i had to wait for the email.... one woman said i wasn't registered even tho i have had the dean email etc so now i don't know what's going on!

  3. Nope, no email yet :( I assumed they'd be doing a blanket email, but perhaps they're doing it old school and sending one at a time...

  4. 2 things strange:
    1) the half-size storage device is only a third of the cost?
    2) the 500gb unit keeps the £3/mth and £40 install that the 1TB unit has dropped for VIP 50/100 users - perhaps this is how it pays for a lower cost for the unit?

  5. Order mine this morning.... lady didn't know how to book it on and i currently have V+ and 4 additional standard boxes. She was trying to say it would cost £13 extra to keep the V+ in one of the bedrooms and £3 for tivo. I finally explanined ad my bill only when up by £3...INSTALL ON WEDNESDAY 13th Yippee.....

  6. I'm at the start of the alphabet surname wise so that's probably why I got the email. Took 15 mins on hold before I got through, then they confirmed the order but couldn't give me an install date as they were so busy. Promised a call back within 24 hours.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Are you able to share the number? Or do you get a special quote code relevant to your account details etc?

    ReplyDelete
  8. is there just a phone number or a specific code? if it's just a number please share again and i will try once more, could do with a quick install as i'm off all week!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Tried to order twice (after getting my email). 1st attempt, they said the ordering system wasn't ready, 2nd attempt has apparently got me a tivo box ordered, but they need to call me back with an install date.

Fingers crossed will get a call back soon! :)

  10. I received Dean and Dawood email on my email address that I never registered with.
    :-(
Now I have not received above both email on my registered email address, I am wondering will I get email?
If someone can post phone number than we can call them say in week time or so
    Please

  11. Why or why did I not pre register my interest? I wonder when we early majority users will be able to order. Hopefully in time for the April discount

  13. 500Gb option seems like a bargain in comparison. £100 extra to pay for something with a wholesale price difference of £15! I'll wait until May. Good luck everyone getting theirs.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @David
Dont forget £40 installation, that will be £90, so you are only £50 better off
then again, its an individual choice

    ReplyDelete
  15. Haven't had an e-mail, but I just called 0800 052 0781 and after speaking to a couple of unhelpful people, I've upgraded to Tivo and my install date is 19th April!!!

It's been a long time coming, wahoo!

    ReplyDelete
  16. @ rm cheers for the heads up!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I called and they were insistent on the promo code which comes with the email.

    Anyone have this code?

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ streaky_7 - try calling again!

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Sajid

If you're VIP 50 or 100, there's also the £3 p/m charge (total £36 for a year) to discount for the 1TB version, so the price difference comes down to £14!

  20. Just called 0800 052 0781. Told a little white lie to the woman that answered. When asked 'have you received an email?' I said 'yes'. Not strictly true... After that I just gave her my account number and hey presto all was good. My Tivo secured. She said she'd have to call me back 'by next week' though as the engineer booking system was 'too slow to make bookings at the moment' :-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm glad more and more people are getting it. The bloke I spoke to put me on hold for 5 minutes but came back with an install date!

    Changed my name from RM

    ReplyDelete
  22. I might call back tomorrow and see whether VMs booking system might take the stain of one extra booking :-)

I'm in London (area 15) wonder if there are any area variations to the delivery logistics...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Were the rumours of it being a free installation true then or does it still apply?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Only charge for me is £149.95 on my next bill and £3 a month as I'm not a VIP

    ReplyDelete
  25. Finally.... I have Tivo install date (next week). £149. Very Happy Bunny.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @matthew yes free install for april only and if you on vip 50 or vip 100 £3 pm waved too

    ReplyDelete
  27. at last - spoke to someone who had just started their shift so needed a lot, and I mean a lot, of assistance, was on the phone for 55mins in total but I now have Tivo booked for this Thursday install, £149 charge, no install or monthly fee, both waived as i am a VIP50 customer!

    Woohoo!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I just called and got through straight away. I wasn't asked for any email code and within minutes and I was offered an installation slot thursday morning (14th).

They did try and charge me £40 installation but I wasn't having any of it. After she 'checked with her manager' she admitted she made a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I had pre-registered, but haven't received an email today to invite me to call to book an install, but I just rang 08000520781 and have an install booked for next Monday 18th! Dead chuffed! Cheers for the heads-up guys!

    ReplyDelete
  30. can you book the 500meg box now or do u have to wait till may to order it ??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Got my email and straight onto the phone. Installation arranged for Friday afternoon. Can't wait!

There is a special code in the email that they ask for immediately when you call.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You can defo get one without the code.... I didn't have one but mt TiVo will arrive next Wednesday. You'll need your best blagging cap on. Think outside the box ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. The guy asked me for the special code but I told him my broadband was down and couldn't access my email to see it. He told me that he'd have to check my details on the system but there were no problems!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Called at 15:30, no waiting, gave my details, prices as advertised, no install fee, installation Thursday morning.

    Very Positive experience all round.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Called sales and install date is Wed 20th. Never received the email, she asked for a code but just told her I didn't have it to hand. Confirmed I was pre-registered though so got free install.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I said I was at work and my wife had got the email and just gave me a number to call but no code. No problem.

@Nialli and your update - I would call VM and get a date confirmed. I wouldn't wait for a callback. I got through both times quickly, just waited for ages as I was the first one for the guy as he had just started so he needed to ask people how to do things like transfer my HD premium to TiVo upon install etc.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The successes are rolling in now, I think I started something beautiful!

My excuse was that the email was on my phone and I couldn't talk to the sales person and read my emails!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Is it £3p.m. for each Tivo, or just to take the Tivo service?

And can we book £500GB TIVOs now for free install?

If both are true, even if I had to wait until mid-May for install, I would take 3 - 1x1TB, 2x500GB!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bloody hell Jon, whats going down in your house?

Or are you hoping VM can't keep up with demand and you can then sell them at a profit?!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Easy Peasy - called the number. told them I had a recent e-mail from (Which I had - The Dean one) They processed me right away. £149 + £3 per month and take the V-box away.

Paid by Debit card and installation is this week

Exceptionally polite and knowledgable from a Lady called Chris the operator in Manilla.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I did not pre register but had no problem signing up. Free install as I have a 50Mb broadband. Install on Mon 18 April.

I hope not, as the TIVO boxes are owned by VM - so that would be theft!

  47. got through on the 0800 number to a very helpful lady. blagged it with the story of receiving an email but said I'd only received an email notification on my phone. install Friday! no £40 and £3 waived until further notice...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Congrats Nialli
looking forward to seeing your thoughts once you have TIVO. I am in Aus at the moment and dont get back till May. Can I definitely order now and have it installed in May?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi sorry if this is covered but any idea when new customers can order? I did pre-register but no email so far. Cheers Macca

    ReplyDelete
  50. told you all it was coming

    500gb @ £49.95

    hope you enjoy your Tivo

    ReplyDelete
  51. Called them, £149 plus £3pm sir, oh and you'll lose your discounts and it'll be £20pm extra!!!! Currently on hold to speak to a third person. I'm not having this!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Haven't received the email yet, although I had pre-registered so after reading all this comments thought I'd ring up and give it a go. Called the 0800 number and got through very quickly. Didn't ask about an email or a code, just asked for account number etc. Free install, £149.95 fee and £3 a month, being installed on Thursday 14th pm (they did offer to do it on Weds!). Now that's what I call service.

    ReplyDelete
  53. 3 phone calls and no one seems to know what they are doing. On the 2nd call was told that the tivo order was done wrong in the first place and thats why there were no install dates so now after speaking with customer services I have a tivo install on Fri 15th April.

    ReplyDelete
  54. No email yet, but rang the number noted in this thread and hey presto, installation next Tuesday!! Yay! Operator just asked for my account number and that was all.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi all, has any one tried or had any joy getting a tivo via the retentions department?

  57. I am a VIP 50 customer and asked for two boxes. I was told that the first box was at £149.99 and no install fee but for the second box i must pay £199.99 plus £40 install. I declined to take it up.

Is this correct or are they having me on?

    ReplyDelete
  58. UPDATE: After speaking to three different people about them wanting to charge me an extra £20pm on top of the £3pm because they were removing my discount I ended up having to call the number again!!!

This time around I said what I wanted, she said it's £149.49 plus £3pm. I asked three times if it was just £3pm being added to my subscriptions, and thrice she said yes. See we shall wait and see.

    Install next Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Yip; ordered without a code. Install on WEDNESDAY!!

  61. I have just called, 19:30, Monday after really receving my email and code.
Took only 3 minutes to book, but real problem was that I am only a XL customer and they wanted to charge £3 monthly fee, which I argued for 10 minutes, then guy went to speak with someone and come back with good news, told me OK no monthly charge and will be Installed Thursday morning.
Very happy. Ohh and one more thing, I said I have got about 35hours of recording on my V+ box that I dont wanna loose so I said I will not return that box same day, I said I will return later date if you are happy
And guess what, they are not bother at all, just told me that OK no problem, note on your account if engineer insist to take it away, ask him to confirm with customer service
WOW, this is great, isnt it?

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Square-eyes,

    Can you confirm?

£3 per account per month or £3 per box per month?

Can we order the 500GB boxes for install without install fee? They can be installed at the same time as a 1TB box if necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  63. @Jordan
Try again, dont give up. They will give you at £149 with free installation, if you dont then take one as normal and after than email to CEO office

    ReplyDelete
  64. Just called the 0800. Got no email today but was only asked for account number. Getting installed on Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Didn't pre-register but rang and said i had recieved the email, didn't seem to fussed to be honest, confirmed i wanted to upgrade to TiVo and install booked for Thursday afternoon

    ReplyDelete
  66. @Jon

You only pay 1 install fee even if you are having 3 boxes- thats only 1 x £40.

Yes you have to pay £3 tivo subscription per box for at least 12 months

    @Gemma

If you contact the retentions team, saying you are thinking of leaving - trying to get a box cheaper - then you will be let go. They have been told to let people go if they threaten to disc if they cannot get a box cheaper or free.

    @Everyone else

Be under no illusion there are no offers on these boxes what so ever - simple reason there is nothing like it on the market.

    ReplyDelete
  67. @sajid

once the tivo box has been installed - you will not be able to watch anything you have on the V+ box - the codes that operate the V+ are removed for the tivo codes, they cannot be on the account together - sorry but whoever you have spoke with does not know their job

    ReplyDelete
  68. I pre-registered, but after the first email in Dec 2010 and one in Feb 2011 have had no others. I tried calling yesterday to check I would get an email - gave up. Went in to the Virgin Media store near my work - they could not help. So I phoned the 0800 tonight and have 2 x Tivo coming next Tuesday! And a Superhub too as I thought should upgrade from my M broadband to XL. (Tried to get a price for VIP50 but gave up). Thanks Nialli for the blog and helpful posts of people.

  69. No email for me. Oh well, I guess Virgin mustn't want my money! Their loss!

    ReplyDelete
  70. hi can some 1 tell me can you order the 500 box now or not till may ??

    ReplyDelete
  71. Quick question - do I still have to pay the £5 extra I'm currently paying for the V+ if I switch to Tivo ?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Whilst actually reading this Virgin rang me I didn't get an email? But I have installation on Saturday. How awesome is that! :-)

  73. An update on my post of yesterday. VIP50 seemed the way to go so I tried to rearrange. After a few false starts I got through to Pre-Install Cancellations who were great and so now should be on VIP50. £30 superhub charge cancelled, quoted £100.50 plus £3 Tivo for second Tivo (I think! First bill will be interesting).

    ReplyDelete
  74. @Square Eyes: "once the tivo box has been installed you will not be able to watch anything you have on the V+ box". I guess that means that any recordings have to be transfered or watched before my old V+ gets relegated to second box duties in the bedroom? Am I right in assuming that I won't get HD Sky Sports and Movies on the V+ once I have TiVo as my main box?

Arhhhhh Shame! Maybe they thought YOU would be high maintenance.

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Nialli

Sorry, perhaps I should make that a bit clearer, if you are keeping your existing V+ as an extra outlet, then you will be able to continue watching the recorded content.

My post to Sajid - Sajid will not be able to watch them because he is not keeping the V+ as extra outlet, the codes which operate the V+ are removed and replaced by the Tivo codes because they cannot have both codes on the same line on your accounts.

In your case the codes are placed on a second line - this is how a second box is created on your account and how you get charged for the extra box.

  79. @squareyes,
Thanks for the info mate, I do have multiroom, so if I put my this V+box in my other room and ask engineer to take away that box, I will be fine to watch, Wont I?

    ReplyDelete
  80. @Sajid

Thats fine then, you should be okay keeping the V+ and being able to watch your recorded programmes

    ReplyDelete
  81. @Square eyes
Thanks mate, I was worried then of losing my all recorded content, now I will just swap my box before engineer comes in, and then if he wants to take away that box, who cares?

    ReplyDelete
  82. OK - Confused now.

Got an email and a link to order - with a immediate responce that all OK and I will get a confirmation email. (I didn't). The next day I got an email saying I would soon be contacted (that didn't happen either) so I rang the 0800 number - and the operator attempted to sell me everything on the Virgin list - and add a huge amount to the bill as there was no record of my Tivo order - do I hang on?
