Ultra HD Sky Cinema on Virgin Media in 2016?

That's what this week's Virgin Media Presents email is promising!

Sky Movies is now Sky Cinema

SPECTRE + Sky Cinema round-up

What do you think of the new look? Welcome to Sky Cinema, the new (and improved) home of Sky Movies. Oh yes, it's had much more than just a name change…
Sky Movies customers can now kick back and enjoy more of the latest blockbusters than any other subscription service. And that's not even the half of it! You'll get a new movie premiere every single day, over 1,000 films to choose from on demand, new and improved HD as standard, sound closer to the cinema… (draw breath)… a chance to broaden your horizons with World Cinema Wednesday and, to give you even more to look forward to, Ultra HD films by the end of the year

  2. I thought it looked very good on some channels on Friday - Premier and Tom Cruise both impressive. I don't think it's quite the quality hike Sky has suggested though and nowhere near Netflix quality

    1. Is that a confirmation date of the New Tivo Box launch August for ultra HD viewing ? As i want a new Ultra HD telly but need to know when Virgin are upgrading

  5. Sorry, that's a Sky date, Virgins new box will be a while longer and who knows if SKY and BT will allow them to carry the 4K version. All this should at least speed up the end of SD.

  7. I can see the difference but you need to be on the HD version of the original channel. See channels 431 to 442 for HD options. Cheers.

    1. I was just trying to find an answer to Virgins Tivo being ( a ) upgraded and ( b ) the Tivo Box being replaced with 4k capabilities to compete with Sky Q

  8. @Colin Bruce I don't know any firm news on the TiVo upgrades or replacements. The software revision on the existing hardware is still in testing and has not been rolled out nationally yet (Cable Forum threads have details) and there's nothing definite yet about the new hardware except vague promises made by Virgin Media executives. Sorry.

    1. Thanks for the update it's an interesting scenario as you realise Virgin will not release info for rivals to benefit from but at the same time with Sky showing their hand and obvious strides forward viewers who appreciate the technology and want the best and latest available for them become itchy and are likely to swap providers if they believe their present one is not moving forward or showing any signs of doing so
