V6 reviews welcome!

Hi all
Seasons greetings and all that from all of the team (i.e. just me) here at VMHD.
Unlike many of you I won’t be on the phone to Virgin today to order a V6 or two. The main reasons for this sloth are that my two current TiVos are working okay and I’ve got my left leg in plaster and can’t crawl about on the floor sorting out the usual cable chaos after an engineer’s visit. I’m also wary of new hardware (thirty years in IT does that to a chap), especially at this time of year, and my VM contract is up for renewal/cancellation in February so I may wait until then. Anyway...
If you have a new V6 and would like to share your first impressions with the VMHD community (the blog still gets over 50,000 visits a month) please email me your words of wisdom and I’ll post them here for others to enjoy.

Phoned VM to enquire about the V6 and I didn't have the right package to get the discounted V6! So ask how much it would cost if I upgraded, bareing in mind I only needed to increase the broadband to 200Mbs. The monthly cost came down by £4, So i am happy, as the price i was paying. was the new price that I renegotiated after the price hikes. So much for price rises.

Just called Virgin to get a V6, apparently if you currently have a TIVO and a VHD box. When applying for a new V6 they forcibly remove the VHD and then apply an additional £5 monthly charge.

There is no option to keep the VHD and have the Tivo replaced with a V6.

As the press release states that there is no additional monthly charge I find this most unsatisfactory. Even the retentions team seemed to be confused. I have submitted a complaint to ofcom for false advertising.

Phoned today to 'investigate' and was told that on top of the 49.95 fee for the box upgrade there is also a £40 installation fee and another £15 for an activation fee. Is that what others have been told? It makes the box swap twice the price of that advertised for current Tivo users

yer told me £65 Installation,Spoke to retentions and the guy was totally arrogant.my finally words to him cant wait for your next price increase so i can cancel without early cancellation charges

I was on the phone to VM on Tuesday all ready to pay the £64 (£50 plus £14) requested but as I am a recent returnee to VM they couldn't work out how to keep the deep 9 month discounts I have in place and swap out the TiVO for the V6 at the same time. The best they could offer me was £8 more a month. So I now have to wait until May when the discounts end and see if I can get the V6 and some discounts then. Patience is a virtue...

I have XL for all servicers and just got quoted £100 (99.95) plus £40 install charge. No change to monthly payments. Too much for me, told them no thanks.

Just booked for installation and got a great deal. Maybe virgin media are bucking their ideas up and actually doing good by the customer.

I've swapped one of my TiVo 500 boxes for the 1TB V6 at £49.99 + 14.00 activation fee including free installation. The customer service agent also made adjustments to my current package and if I renewed my contract for another 12 months I got a total saving of £48 to my monthly bill. Which any saving is always welcome :)

The only caveat is I've got to wait untill February for installation but could get a phone call anytime if they get a cancellation, but I said I am happy to wait as they did give me a bill reduction. So far so good and a happy customer.

I will report back to give me review as soon as it's installed.

I phoned customer retentions and was told it would be £116 to change one tivo for a v6, then I spoke to billing who told me it was £49.95 including the install and activation and even better there come on the 11th to install yes on a Sunday even the lady on the phone had to double check it

I called up to enquire. Got told one off fee of £49.95 and thats it. I am on 100mb broadband and tv xl. Specifically asked if it would affect my £35 a month deal (thats £35 all in including line rental) they said no it wouldnt change that at all and doesnt affect my contract length either, will still have 9 months left on contract. Also asked if any other fees and they said no more other than £49.95 fee. Getting installed on 25th Jan (earliest they could do it). Interesting others have been told different pricings!

Got mine installed last week. Massive improvement over TiVo. Got the old tivonin bedroom now. Love that I can still watch recordings off it through new v6 and vice versa.

Just need some 4K channels

Customer of Virgin for many years having transferred over from Blueyonder and given an installation date in March 2017. Seems like a very long wait.

Just ordered my V6 box from Virgin.

No change to my monthly charge, i did have to make a single one off payment though. £49.99 + 14.00 activation fee. Box and router will be installed on 11/02/2017.

V6 box will replace the current Tivo box in my lounge, this will replace the old V+ box in the bedroom.

I also had to upgrade my router and broadband, currently on 150mbps this has been increased to 200mbps.

Does anyone know the reason for this, or is it simply Virgin trying to get more revenue?.

Mine arrived during the week. I was a bit disappointed that the menu and UI are the same as the old TiVo box, but it's much faster than that stuttering old box of bolts. My only gripe is that the series links from the old one weren't carried over to the V6 (surely this could be possible via the app?)

Aside from that I'm very impressed, and being able to record six channels at once is a boon.

Hi. Does the V6 use existing cables that are currently drilled through the wall?

Had an alcove unit built so I'm hoping it does use existing cables!

Cheers.

Dan: I haven't been removing anyone's comments, but Blogger has been filing them erroneously as "requiring moderation" (see today's post). Should be okay now.
