Great service from Karl in Retensions

I called Retentions (as I was seriously considering a Now/Humax alternative to save money) and got myself upgraded to Vivid 200 broadband, two V6s (one off charge of £112) and my monthly bill DOWN by a tenner. Install date? Next Thursday. Very happy bunny. And we'll be doing some serious binge viewing this week of our old recordings

Nice, I did the same about 2 weeks ago, still waiting for my engineer though, he's coming on February 3rd! Do the V6 boxes need to be wired in to the network do you know? I can't find an answer anywhere. I can't use power of Ethernet as the house is very old and the fastest speed I can get over it is 2mb.

I think one V6 has to be connected by Ethernet to your hub but I think any other V6's can connect using the built-in wifi. Maybe someone else can confirm? My info is from Ben on this thread http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=33704246

Yep I concur, According to Virgin's own V6 fact sheet, it has dual band AC wireless.

And according to this it can be connected via wireless

Confirmed: you have to start the V6 connected then disconnect the Ethernet cable before the option to select a wireless network is available.
When mine arrives this week I will ask the engineer if he can get it all connected and working before he leaves as I don't have an Ethernet point where I need my second box.

@Gray: happy to share, but best not to do so on a public site. Please email me at niallivm@gmail.com and I'll send my new monthly bill with you

I spoke to retensions last week. Changed my package slighlty to corresponds with the latest offerings, and saved a bit of money. Decided not to go for the V6 box in the end though, due to the £99 install and £14.95 activation fee. I still think this is a bit steep, especially for a rental product and one that still costs £5 per month.

Will wait until they drop the price of the install I think before I move forward with the new box.

The V6 works fine over wif (assuming good signal). You do not need to be connected by ethernet, even for initial setup.

Got mine being installed on 26th Jan, paid £49 up front as decided to upgrade my BB from 100meg to Vivid 200 for a fiver extra a month, they waived the activation fee too. :) Asked about the Superhub 3 and was told don't bother yet as there are still firmware issues but was assured the SH 2 would work fine.

got mine last Saturday, had it a week. The engineer had to hang around to set it all up but very fast compared to the previous one. I've had to reboot a couple of times by pulling the power cord but it starts up a lot faster as well.

Overall, very impressed though I find the picture pauses briefly every 4 seconds roughly on the UHD demo on iPlayer. I have a Sony TV and the HDR is really only for Panasonic so that might be the cause.

Usual arse-elbow though from sales, phoned up and was quoted £65 in December and asked where the extra £15 was coming from - activation fee... Phoned back and was quoted £165 - £100 + £50 activation + £15 activation, third call I was quoted £65 again but would lose my Sky Sports as only a TiVo deal. But this is a TiVo? No, it's a V6. Powered by Tivo, running TiVo software? oh yeah, hold on, I've got a new discount code, sorted!

I got my bill 2 days after and... £100 install, £50 activation, plus £15 activation, less £50 discount for full house so £115. A quick call got that sorted!

With ref to Hub 3 I was told it was compulsory and changed there and then, I can't say I was happy

when i spoke to tech support yesterday re another issue i asked about the SH3 and the guy said if they do swap my SH2 out for the SH3 then i was to hold onto the SH2 in case of any problems with the new hub. From the way he was talking the SH3 has quite a few problems including XBox One connectivity issues.

Got V6 box on Thursday 12th. Ethernet to hub 3.0. Linked to 1tb tivo box with repeater and Ethernet cable so I can watch recordings from tivo to V6.
Linked fine automatically thru home network. Sat down Thursday evening and the tivo box shows up greyed out with exclamation mark bedide it.
Phoned tech Friday morning. He dialed in and said V6 was not showing as being online and there was a fault in the box. Saturday lunch engineer arrives. Listens to me and then says " I didnt know u could link them"!!!
He phones the regional tech chief engineer and he says the same. Can I wait til Tuesday so he can investigate.
Bit miffed now. The engineer at my house now won't change the V6 box as his boss is coming.
Decided to check my other tivo box and it connected the same as the first but again greyed out so I know that they are all linked on home network and that its not a fault with existing equipment.
Tuesday arrives. Engineer calls, 20 minute warning? No he needs another day to investigate and was just clarifying the problem. I accept his apologies and hang up. 10 mins later I try to watch TV on V6. Black screen. Frozen guide and my little white power light on the front of V6 is flashing red white and blue at me?! The box is in meltdown.
Cant phone chief engineer back as he withheld number! Phone technical. He sees what the original guy sees and says the V6 box is not working!!
Needs to be replaced and they cant improve on tomorrow afternoon.
Tbc?

Had my V6 installed last Saturday and when the technician had done his bit, he asked if I had any questions. Yes I said, how do I connect the two boxes together? (Old Tivo and V6). His reply was "you can't!" so I said OK and he left. I started to have a play and the first thing I noticed within "my shows" were the words "other Tivo boxes" so I went to that menu and it offered up the old Tivo box and all the recordings it had stored and yes it worked.
It would appear that the technician haven't been told this is available?

Anyway It's working very well and both boxes are working a treat and as for Netflix, well! I won't be using the TV's smart app any more as the v6 is as quick and with the smart series link+ and book marking, it all goes into my shows in neat folders and works as if it's on the hard disk.

That's it I am happy as pig in.....
