February 18, 2019

From Tuesday 19 February, some BBC HD channels Virgin Media will have new channel numbers. So look out for these:

BBC Four HD moves to CH 107

BBC News HD moves to CH 601

CBBC HD moves to CH 701

CBeebies HD moves to CH 702This should happen automatically and your SeriesLink+ is unaffected. So, while the HD channels are in a new place, it won’t stop you watching and recording shows on these channels.

What happens to BBC News SD? Are we just losing it?

I ask because, currently, BBC News HD doesn't show the local news bulletins. And it would be a shame to lose them.

BBC 2 HD is now on 102 in Scotland as of this morning, ahead of the new BBC Scotland channel due to start on 108 Sunday 24th February

Wow the excitement. I'm really not sure I can handle it. Maybe they can move Beeb 1 HD so it's in it's rightful position at top of most people's charts?

About time, this has been overdue for some time. With most people now watching through a HD connection the SD versions of standard channels are now no longer required. Not sure when I last was ITV or BBC SD channels.

In response to some of the previous comments - BBC One in HD is on 101. As per the note on the front page.
BBC One HD (101 except England, 108)
BBC 2 HD (102 except Scotland, 162) This is now on 102 as per Graham's comment

I'm not sure Dave the SD channel ever showed local news, I only say this as when you watch BBC News, the presenter stated we would now join your local news room, however on the BBC News channel you would get the same presenter continuing the rolling news. However, on BBC One SD, they used to show the Screen stating that BBC One HD could not show regional news, but this is no longer the case in Wales, I have seen that message on Freeview though, but only on BBC One not BBC News.

@Christian:

My experience is from watching the Breakfast News show. At that time of the day, you'd get the local (London for me) news shown on both BBC One SD and BBC News SD. The HD versions of the channels would show a screen recommending you switch to an SD channel.

But, this morning, the BBC London news bulletin was shown in HD on BBC News. So they seem to have worked around this problem.

@Dave

Thanks, that is interesting. Thanks for confirming the details.

Surely we should have a standardised approach. Why are BBC One and TWO HD Channels now on 101 and 102 in Scotland and Wales but not in England

Ho Hum

@Christian

I think the reasoning (in Scotland at least) is that as Scotland now has its own dedicated BBC channel, they can move the network versions of BBC1HD/BBC2HD to the prime EPG slots, without compromising any obligations to provide regional content.

I might be wrong, but I think they show a random local BBC region on the BBC 1 HD channel. One day it might be London, next day Look North!
