Virgin Media pricing comparison

An interesting post from 'Gaz82' on Cable Forum:

I just priced up a package on Sky's website to get it as close to Virgins Ultimate Oomph as possible:

  • Sky Signature (Base Package) - £21
  • HD & Ultra HD - £5
  • Kids - £5
  • Multiscreen - £13
  • Sky Sports - £22
  • BT Sport - £21
  • Sky Cinema - £7
  • Netflix - £4
  • Broadband (Fastest speed available at my address 60mbs, a tenth of the speed!) - £18
  • Sky Talk Anytime - £9
  • 60GB SIM (Sky don’t offer an unlimited data option) - £30

Total: £155

For comparison:

  • Ultimate Oomph - £89
  • Netflix - £13.99

Total: £102.99

The extra £6 suddenly doesn't seem such a big deal.

Do you think they would switch me to that as an existing (well out of contract) customer? I'll be paying over £100 per month now, just for the Full House bundle with 350Mb fibre and Talk More Anytime

That Netflix price quoted for Sky is the basic Netflix subscription, 1 screen @ a time and no HD, the £13.99 price is for 4 screens @ once and UHD so the £6.00 is irrelevant.

VWorlds, yes you should be able to get something near that deal. I was on the VIP package and my contract ran out in August, they wanted me to stump up £134 pm, so I rang retentions and they offered me the Ultimate Oomph bundle (same as old VIP bundle) for £100 pm for this I get 600mbs Broadband, Full House TV, All the Sport & Movies all in HD (BT Sport in 4K UHD) 2 x Tivo V6 boxes, Landline with Talk More Anytime and an Unlimited everything (Data, Texts & Minutes) Mobile Sim with the price fixed for 18 months. I'm sure if I haggled a for a bit longer I could've got it for £90 or maybe less but I didn't have the time nor inclination, they offered me that deal almost without asking and as I thought it was pretty good, I took it. It will go up to £139pm after 18 months but then that's just another phone call. Give them a ring, you have nothing to lose.

I got the same deal as Moleman. It’s always worth a call. When I worked out a near comparable deal with NowTV services I couldn’t get close to Virgin’s price

I was paying £110 p/m for the Ultimate Oomph bundle and my contract was due to renew at £139 p/m in May, with the recent price increase announcement I phoned up CS and spoke to retentions and they offered me a new 18 month contract at the same £110 p/m price. Like Moleman, I couldn't be bothered haggling for more of a discount as it took a while to get through to them anyway and I figured I can still afford the £110 so I'll take it.

I recently renegotiated a new 18 month deal, the new deal include all channels (movies, sports)
350mbps speed unlimited home phone (mobile, landlines) a second tivo box in the bedroom all this for £102.00 PCM I have been with Virgin for a very long time since they took over NTL and before that Bell Cable Media.

Virgin have no loyalty to existing customers, the sooner my contract is up the better. 15 years a customer and nothing near this bundle is offered.
