"so this may be the only F1 on VM "

I highly doubt it when Smallworld cable have already announced they have got the Sky F1 SD channel and it will be in their Sky Sports Pack and VIP equivalent package

Smallworld cable are also in talks for the Sky F1 HD channel.

I am sure the Sky F1 SD channel will come to Virgin Media.

Any news Sqaure eyes on the Sky F1 HD channel coming to Virgin Media ?

Smallworld isn't really a big rival to Sky (it is only available to 40k homes in the north of Britain) whereas VM is (for now) Sky's main rival in pay TV services.
A year ago I thought that there was no way Sky would withhold Sky Atlantic from VM. How wrong I was...

Also Sky Atlantic is not the same as Sky Sports F1.

Sky Atlantic is a niche channel and not worth the money that Sky want for it.

Some stuff on Sky Atlantic is utter crap.

I don't think we'll see Sky F1 on VM, at least for the 2012 season anyway ...

Especially as VM has struck a deal with the BBC for the so called "enhanced" BBC TV services (the 24 streams of coverage that the BBC is broadcasting of various Olympic events, including Formula One, Wimbledon and Euro 2012.)

If these streams are exclusive (which they are reported to be), then surely Sky will want to keep their portion of F1 coverage, so to maintain some exclusivity for themselves?

I really do hope I'm proved wrong though.

Anthony:

You are Talking rubbish

"We will have up to 24 simultaneous live streams of sport running across our digital platforms. At Beijing, we had eight,” BBC Future Media’s head of sport product Cait O’Riordan told the Association of Online Publishers’ annual summit in London on Friday.

The broadcaster wants to make its coverage, totalling 2,500 hours, available to users on the “four screens” of desktop browser, mobile, connected TV and tablet, “through whichever piece of glass they choose to watch it”, with these hallmarks… "

http://paidcontent.co.uk/article/419-bbcs-digital-olympics-four-screens-28-streams-2500-hours/

Sky F1 will be on Virgin Media i am sure.

Martin_e93 said...

Also no where has said these 24 streams are exclusive.

Anthony said...

Rubbish is bit a harsh comment!

I'm quoting 'Media Guardian' / Nialli's post from a few weeks back ... See 2nd para ...

Virgin Media has struck a deal with the BBC to give viewers access to hundreds of hours of extra coverage of major sports events next year, including live video streams from the London 2012 Olympics, through its TiVo service.
The wide-ranging deal will give Virgin Media customers access to "enhanced" BBC TV services – the additional video streams and interactive content accessed via the red button – for a range of the corporation's news and sports coverage next year.
Significantly, Virgin Media customers will now have access to all 24 streams of coverage that the BBC is broadcasting of various Olympic events.
However, the deal also covers the "red button" content of events including Formula One, Wimbledon and Euro 2012.

The additional video streams will only be available to Virgin Media customers who have a TiVo set-top box – a rival to BSkyB's Sky+ service that gives access to on-demand and interactive services.

Based on this I don't think I'm talking rubbish.

And as I said before, I really hope I'm proved wrong.

Christ, it's only an opinion!

VM should give customers the Sky F1 coverage free of charge - even those without Sky Sports - as this would surely get them more customers.

" The additional video streams will only be available to Virgin Media customers who have a TiVo set-top box "

You have misread that.

It's saying as a Virgin Media customer you'll need TiVo ie it won't be on the V+ V+HD or V HD Box

I can imagine the young Rupert Murdoch wandering around the suburbs of Melbourne/Sydney/Australian city, happily stealing candy from babies and demanding the parents pay him AU$10000 to get it back.

There is still no exact answer with regards to F1, except for those who doubt that it will not be seen this season -

Sky F1 will be on VM ready for the start of the season, but customers will have to have the sports channels to get it, likewise with Sky - only available if you have Sky Sports

A deal is being discussed and as soon as I know anything else - so will you.

Martin_e93 said...

Square eyes:

So no Sky F1 HD channel then.

joff81 said...

But what square eyes says is wrong. You dont need a sky sports sub to get sky sports F1 you need sky sports OR sky HD sub.
This means anyone can get it on sky by asking sky for the hd subcription. This was clarified weeks ago !!!

Square eyes never mentioned the Sky F1 HD channel.

If you want the SD version of Sky F1 you need the Sky Sports pack on Sky.

Not really bothered personally. F1 is too predictable, and its always the same cars which wins the races, so definately not one to get into debate over. I`ll stick to my MotoGP on BBC thanks. Much more exciting.

campbellg said...

Now I'm moving to Sky it looks like I'll get Sky Atlantic and F1 - not that I'm giving a hoot about F1.

To paraphrase Martine93, all of F1 is utter crap.

If VM pull out the stops to get this channel before first getting Sky Atlantic it very much re-affirms my decision to leave them.

Square eyes will the Sky F1 HD channel be on Virgin Media in March ?

I suspect it will not be.

You only mentioned Sky F1 you do not mention Sky F1 HD.

Virgin media have announced they've got the F1 Channel, but only as part of the Sky Sports Collection

Pretty rubbish as I don't want all the sky sports channels, just the Sky F1 - although I'm still in 2 minds as to giving sky any of my money.

Square eyes said...

9th March launch - no HD yet

Martin_e93 said...

Square eyes what do you mean by no HD yet ?

Square eyes said...

SD only

I found out today that sky f1 channel will be coming to virgin media, but only the standard definition, and as i dont subscribe to the sports package it will cost me £22.50 a month for the whole sports pack just so i can get the channel. It doesn't come as a standalone channel only part of the sport package.
