Anyone thinking that the doubling of broadband speeds was too good to be true won't be surprised to hear that Virgin are increasing prices on many services in April. According to Virgin's web site, the TV M pack is going up to £7. The L pack increases to £19.50, while the XL pack increases to £26.50.

A Virgin Media spokesperson defended the changes: "As part of our ongoing review of services, we're making some changes to our cable pricing from April. On average, customers will see an increase of around £2.68 per month.
"However as part of our review, we've also managed to provide some customer savings and frozen prices such as our phone line rental. We will be proactively contacting existing customers in the coming weeks to make sure that they are on the best value package for them."

Seems like the reason for XL TV going up £2 could be this.

I believe that customers who would otherwise be locked into a twelve month contract get the right to cancel if the price goes up. However, only the services affected by the price rise can be cancelled.
A cynical person might say that the only reason they are freezing the phone prices is to prevent those who want to from jumping ship entirely - e.g. if you aren't happy with the TV price hikes, then you can't get Sky or BT triple package unless you are willing to continue paying for a VM line rental in addition.

I cancelled VM TV last week and havent looked back.
The Tivo was taken away yesterday, and now I dont pay a penny to VM or Sky for TV. Freesat and a -la carte for all my favourite shows!
I think I'm approaching the point of just giving up on regular TV and relying on iPlayer, Netflix and the like. Sometime this year, when my TiVO contract is up, it may well be on it's way back to Virgin.
My `average` rise is actually £4.25 per month...
£5.05/month increase for me! I still think Virgin Media represent good value for money though.
My upload speed has just jumped to 2Mbps from about 0.5Mbps(on XL) for no apparent reason. Should I have been on this all along or have the upgrades started? (or is just a glitch?).
My speed tripling is supposedly due in April BTW.
Jh123 - There is no 'right' to a minimum term cancellation due to a price increase. This is because this is a service contract and the tariff is not linked. There IS however an understanding that any increase should be 10% or less to trigger ao-penalty exit - but not otherwise.
As to the price increase, as much as I love TiVo, the new pricing means something has to go. A Freeview and Netflix combination will meet my needs and more than half my costs (I already have the kit). Indeed, if it wasn;t for the superior BB, I would have gone elsewhere years ago.
Have seen this as an opportunity to return to Sky for their far superior tv package, whilst keeping my excellent VM broadband service. Best of both worlds...
