In her latest post on the BBC Blog, Danielle Nagler announces that the BBC HD logo is no longer to appear on most drama and films, and will be fainter on other programming. Hurrah! If only others would take similar steps.
I don't know anyone who's a fan of these "DOGs". The worst for this unnecessary onscreen grafitti, especially the intrusive animated nonsense, are the Sky and Virgin Media TV channels (the former's got even worse since it disappeared from cable and is now reaching US excesses). But you have to go a long way to beat the screen-filling logos on the Disney channels which obsure a ridiculous amount of the screen.
Danielle also admits that the scheduling mess over Heroes/Silent Witness didn't please anyone and pledges to do better in future. It's really refreshing to hear such honesty - whilst it's true that you can't please all the people all the time, at least by listening to her audience she's going to please us more than most.
Now, about all those repeats...

A welcome step in the right direction for sure but the only satisfactory conclusion for the viewer can only be "No DOGs allowed".
Going in the opposite direction are BBC3 & G.O.L.D with hideous pink DOG's (clearly inspired by Paris Hilton and her pooch ;-)
Once again the marketing folk have the final say! doh!
Good on the films part of no DOG but there aren't many films on at the moment.
It's not all bad as it is a decent intermediate step. It's quite good really when you consider how bad say G.O.L.D.'s is now and the 1990s retro Sky 1,2,3 ones.
I can't wait for Terminator to start on Virgin One - just so they get rid of the annoying 'Terminator starting in X days' from the right side of the screen.
I'd forgotten about the G.O.L.D. mess. "Go On Laugh Daily"? That's pathetic, the sort of acronym a child would be embarrassed by.
I think that a lot of the VM TV rebranding has been ridiculous - "Dave" made sense but the others are just plain awful.
The DOGs are branding gone bad. The only channels that use them sensitively are BBC4 and More4.

Except for Guide Dogs for the Blind of course ;)
