ITV 2, 3 and 4 HD channels announced for the autumn

ITV has announced that it will launch high def versions of ITV2, 3 and 4 this autumn. The new channels will become available to Sky+ HD subscribers, starting with ITV2 in October. ITV said the deal was non-exclusive and they were in talks with "other providers", which would be Virgin Media as it is the only "other provider" with the capability for paywall HD channels at the moment.

Ahahaha, this must be a joke surely? They expect people to pay for reruns and second rate drose that no other channel wants??

ITV2 is quite a popular channel but the other two are mainly old repeats that won't be in HD anyway. Lots of repeat showings of movies (eg The Mummy, Van Helsing) and sometimes some football, but I can't imagine they will be bigger earners in their current form. Given how little HD there still is on ITV1 I dont' think many will shed tears if these don't appear on VM straight away.

Should be good for the Isle of Man TT on ITV4 next year though!!

This is tremendous news for the cosmetics industry. Just imagine how much slap Jordan will need to apply if her latest bio-series is to be shown in HD.

The quesion that evryon should asking is - Why are Sky saying exclusive - yet ITV say non exclusive?

Is this just Sky playing silly beggers again or have ITV got their infomation wrong

The Guardian stats that "ITV was in talks with other providers, Crozier said, including Virgin Media, but the deal was exclusive to Sky among satellite platforms."

so only exclusive among satellite platforms. The main question is will virgin charge us for it.

Not a loss. ITV 1 is awful enough, let alone it's miserable spin off channels.

At least we now have NatGeo HD and Discovery HD. Along with BBC HD they're 3 channels which actually show some intelligent programming. (well, some of the time anyway)

Most of the programmes shown on these channels will not benefit from being shown in the HD format, so it's a bit useless really. Like the comment about Jordan - have you noticed how you can see her face is a bit spotty when you watch in HD?
