TiVo announces 2Tb, four tuner box in the US

TiVo has revealed its most impressive PVR to date at the US CEDIA Expo. The TiVo Premiere Elite claims to be the 'world's most advanced' set-top box, thanks its inclusion of four tuners and a 2TB hard drive. Overkill? I'm not saying anything. Other features of the TiVo Premiere Elite include THX certification, a 1080p output and the ability to stream content from your home network – as well as the usual TiVo tricks. A Virgin Media spokesperson said to TechRadar : "As Virgin Media TiVo continues to evolve, we're looking at a range of exciting new features to further enhance the service and give our customers a truly unrivalled viewing experience." (Click the TechRadar link for the full story) So you still have to type in your PIN to view anything??! Give me that bug fix over a fourth tuner any day...

A bit off topic, but does anyone know when we'll be able to watch playlists and subscriptions through the TiVo YouTube app?

@manu76: my TiVo's not riddled with faults. I've had the box since April 21st and it has been fine, far more reliable than the Samsung V+ it replaced (which required a couple of reboots a month). I get annoyed by the constant PIN requests and some of the screens could be better, but they're an annoyance and will, I'm assured be fixed.
I'm getting tired of the way some folk talk about the TiVo of forums. You'd think it was unusable - nothing could be further from the truth. Unless you actually have a faulty box, of course, but that can be easily remedied for the price of a Nice biscuit.

@ Nialli, I have to slightly disagree with you on that, I had my TIVO installed on 13th April and since then have had the 4 replacement boxes, 2 rewires of the house, Senior TIVO engineer, Senior Network Engineer out to my house to resolve the following rebooting issue, failure to find my shows, networking availablity error, slow refresh of the screen( GUI and Images) issue to say the least, I would also say that I am impressed with the effort VM are going to to resolve the issues, and when the box does decide to work it is by far the best PVR I have had. I would not say it is any more unreliable than the SKy HD box I had before,

Good point about the parental control PIN - I have to enter it every time I switch to CBeebies!!

@Coops: sounds like a nightmare. Of course, I can only comment on my experience, which has been very, very good. I don't doubt some TiVo users have been less fortunate, but I think the majority have been very happy with TiVo.
What I find annoying is this Forum buzz that the box is a "bug-ridden pile of unusable crap" (and that's an actual quote from a forum). That's nonsense.

Hmmm, maybe this iPad app will help make our TiVo expereince all the better too ...

I've been hanging out for this!

@ Nialli, it has still not put me of the product at all, even ordered another box for up stairs to replace the V+HD box. as talking to a lot vigin support guys there is a lot of good features up and comming before the year out. I think I am just one of the unlucky ones as you said. I would class the TIVO as work in progress, even with the problems I have had.

I'm with Nialli, had box since the start of the trials, believe it or not - not one fault, except for forced faults when testing.

Apart from the pin, my gripe is not being able to delete the deleted folder with one press of the button, like you can with all the other folders in my shows...

Love my Tivo :o)

@ Square Eyes, if you press the clear key over with the faolder selected it will delete everyting in the folder in one go.

I would LOVE a 4th tuner. We had to switch suggestions off because it kept causing constant clashes and have to stop certain recordings.

Having said that, the issue is actually down to certain programmes never starting on time forcing me to use padding which causes overlaps. I'm looking squarely at you BBC!

But a 4th tuner would solve the issue.

We had many problems early on, but mostly due to a faulty box and incompetent technicians. Only current issues are freezes when tuner kicks in. But as long as VM keep refunding me I'm happy. Had a zero bill this month :)

Suggestions should not cause scheduled recordings to miss. It's never happened to me, but I believe it happens to some. Not sure why. Hopefully that is something that will be fixed in the coming update.

I agree with Nialli. After swapping out a box that did cause odd "channel unauthorised" problems, mine has been a rock solid piece of kit. A few UI niggles for sure but a huge improvement over my V+, even without any change in HDD size :;

Maybe there are more unreliable boxes out there than there should be (maybe that is why Virgin are changing supplier?!). Maybe some of the network is not coping very well. maybe there are some problems getting the UK metadata up to scratch (no other PVR has needed it before), but to say that TiVo is the problem is a nonsense.

@Coops

sorry to disagree but that does not work on the recently deleted folder, as I said - it works on the normal folders , but not that one.

Like nialli, I've had a box since beginning of the year and had no problems and no reboots. Maybe I'm just lucky too... Or maybe the majority of people don't post on forums.
Again like nialli, I get fed up with the people who so venomously respond when they can either call VM or in many cases need to learn to read the manual - so many people post over on the vm support forum who don't have problems, it horrific!
Personally, I don't see the need for 4 tuners when so much content is repeated, if you want to guarantee watching something earlier in the cycle, change the priority of your choices. As the epg improves, there will be less problems with the recording schedules.
@nialli... A future f/w release is likely to address your issue about pins.

@coops... Sorry u have had these problems, I'm sure vm are working with you to try to fix.

@Jon... Interesting comment, I have an issue at work where people blame the last point in the process and it's nothing to do with that part... People can only blame what they can see which is the end point... In our case here on the forum that means TiVo gets the blame for everything.

Another happy TiVo customer here when it comes to the performance of the machine and had mine since April. There are some updates needed to make but for me thats not because the machine doesnt work, thats just little tricks etc that need added or ironing out (red button, PIN request etc)...my Tivo works fine and I couldnt be happier with the performance.
