More HD confirmed for October

Source: Virgin Media's Peter Chapman

We are going to be launching a number of HD channels in October. This includes four channels from UKTV which we will be announcing shortly. We will also be launching Sky Movies Classic HD in October. That will mean that we will have 36 HD channels of which over 19 are included for free as part of our TV packs,

We are in discussion with the owners of the other channels you list as well as a number of additional providers so we hope to be able to bring more HD channels in the future.

Whilst it is good news to finally see some new hd channels,Clearly we have got these due to vm selling there stake in uktv.So the discussions still continue on the channels we all want,Clearly not cheap enough yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With Virgin Media signing a deal to get Sky Movies Classics HD.
Sky Sports News HD and Sky News HD must be surely be close to coming to Virgin Media

Sky News HD? Wow, at last I can get ultra right wing Rupert Murdoch approved propaganda in fairly clear highly compressed 1080i! I'll pass.

I just want the content from Sky Atlantic in some form other than from bittorrent. Preferably on demand somehow, but that seems like something of a big ask. Why couldn't HBO just launch a channel here in Europe?

I'd say the use of the phrase 'we hope' empties much of this of any substance. It remains the case that the agreed additions are of very limited value and I don't believe that SS3 and 4 in HD will arrive anytime soon without an intervention from OFCOM (indeed unless I've missed something Sky have not yet formally accepted that SS1 and 2 HD should be available and the escrow account is still in operation). Much more likely are ITV HD channels which would be a small step, particularly ITV 4 HD since that at least has some live sport.

These UKTV additions are somewhat underwhelming to say the least.

Clearly VM will only get channels if they are on the cheap and don't give two hoots about the channels their punters want, even those willing to pay extra for it.

No doubt these channel's have been bought on the cheap or free. Come on Virgin Media give your customers the channels they want Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports HD3, HD4, History HD and Bio HD. I don't have the option of going over to Sky so it's Virgin or nothing.

I don't have the option either - if I did I'd have jumped ship long ago.

When the day comes that I can get Sky, virgin will be asked one question, are you getting Sky Atlantic, yes or no? - if it's no I'm offski, even if they were to half my bill.

Does anyone know if we'll get Universal HD ?
This channel is high on my most wanted HD list.

@lee mine to,But on contact the owners of the channel. Was told that it as always been available to vm,Must not be cheap enough yet !!!!!

Add it to the list of shows VM aren't prepared to pay for or even allow us their customers the option of paying for.

I'm also getting pig sick of seeing Mark Warren rabbiting on about Tivo when I put my on demand on - I don't think it's the best way to watch TV, VM, I think the best way to watch TV is having the option of watching the programmes you want to watch available to you in the first place.
