Upgrading to TiVo?

Activation is free on the first box, so a 500mb TiVo is now free (if you ignore the £3 a month) and the 1tb beauty if £49. Details on Virgin Media's site
(Note that the small print says that  this is only for the first TiVo on each account and upgrading any more will still incur the £49.95 activation charge. That V+ in the bedroom can't be swapped for a free TiVo. At least, not yet.)

Maybe I'm getting confused, but seems like the activation fee is waived, but not the installation fee?

So still costs £49.95?

"Free TiVo Box activation: Irrespective of the number of set-top boxes you already have, for every new sale - If you take a 500GB TiVo box as your first box, the activation fee will be waived; if you take a 1TB TiVo box as your first box, we will reduce the activation fee to £49.95. Standard installation fee of £49.95 applies."

Intallation fee still applies to both 500GB an 1TB, £49.95, so effectively there is no change to the price!

It still costs £ 49.95 for existing customers.

I've just got a 500gb tivo box installed, replacing my contract with SKY HD. Not impressed atall, menu slow and not easy to use, changing channels has a 2 second delay. Lack of standard HD channels, ITV 2HD etc, I understand this is coming soon. Considering changing back to SKY, am I mad. Just want an ease of use service. 30MB Broadband is okay, not noticing much difference from my previous 10MB deal.

Further to my last post, this is what I'm getting for a 30MB connection.

Just got around to trying my spotify 12 month voucher code when it seems they have changed their sign up process.

To sign up to spotify now you need to have a facebook account, apparently this is against the law and has led to many users cancelling their accounts.

Anybody else have this issue when signing up?

With an additional box does the engineer need to do any drilling to get it into the other room for example upstairs bedroom? I live in rented house, so it's not as straight forward for me.

I'll put up with the odd Tivo teething problems for BB speeds like this..

My parents and friends have Sky HD boxes and don't see how the menu/interface is any quicker than Tivo!

I had Tivo 500GB box installed end of July and have had no installation or activation charges added to my account, should I keep quiet about this!

On the subject of BB speeds I'm more than impressed with mine, what do you think?

I have just spoken to Customer Services. They claim that the Virgin Media website is wrong. According to customer services the website should state that the 500gb box is free and installation is free but the activation is £49.95!!! Apparently this fee cannot be waived. Well, I shall continue waiting till it is truly free!

@NottsWanderer got me on the speed!!! nice to see someone happy...same as you had 1TB box installed 3 months ago, no extra install/activation charges applied....very happy overall

Seems like Virgin Media doing their best to piss off existing customers (10 years plus for me), by relabelling the 49.95 charge. If they are that keen to move us on to Tivo to free up some bandwith, they should be pushing the Tivo box even harder at us!!

i have been with VM for 6 years. I have just gone through the VM website as a new customer. TIVO 500GB is free box, free install and free activation! Just phoned VM choose option to disconnect. Spoke to a lovely young lady called Dawn in Sheffield and TIVO box is free (£3 per month still stands). Being installed next saturday. Also confirmed Sky premium HD from 1st October is £7 per account and not per box, this should happen automatically. Well done VM.

It looks like virgin are only concentrating on two boxes. Looking on the set top boxes on their website, their is no signs of the v+ hd box.
