Control your TiVo from a Windows PC

Andy Wheeler, a reader of this blog, has just emailed me the details of a Windows app he has written which allows you to remotely control your TiVo on a Windows PC.
The software and details can be found here: www.andypwheeler.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/tivoremote
The VM TiVo Net Remote allows you to control your Virgin Media TiVo box from a PC running Windows with .NET version 4.0 or above installed. Your VM TiVo must be running firmware 15.2 or above, be connected to your home network via the Ethernet port at the back of the TiVo, and have Network Remote Control enabled from the settings menu.
I can't test it as I don't have a Windows PC but let me know what you think.

(Please note the hint of sarcasm)

I am looking at getting a MacBook Pro very soon. I have been learning Objective C on a VMWare image of Mac, so I will get one out for Mac too... might be a few weeks though.

Like it Andy, does the job nicely. Being able to use the keyboard to type in search boxes is particularly useful. Small suggestion, a tick box to automatically connect to last used IP on app launch would make it even slicker.

Thanks Kevin. Nice idea, I will make sure it is put in the next release.

Thanks Andy. The other way you could do it would be to accept the IP as a parameter. You could then have multiple shortcuts setup if you've got more than one TIVO, passing the relevant IP in the shortcut.

Working for me but whilst channel switching is instantaneous the other buttons have a significant delay (I'm hooked up via home plugs) and the TV guide is not showing up.

Yes, there is a bug with the channel guide showing up. Others have reported that if you open up IE first then try it works.

As for the sluggish button presses, I will look into it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm using Chrome but TV guide now showing up and response from other key strokes now seems fine other than when shifting to home or my shows when there are still considerable delays.
