ITV HD programming to be available on Virgin On Demand

According to this story in The Guardian and this piece in today's Telegraph, programming from ITV's four channels is to be added to Virgin Media's On Demand service, including (gasp) "a selection of ITV's high definition programmes". The Virgin press release can be found here.

Why can't we just have the ITV HD. Be great if we could watch FA Cup and England games in HD, instead we will be able to catch up on Coronation Street on demand. Great!

Do ITV have much HD apart from sports that they could put on demand??

Interesting. Perhaps this will count as one of Berkett's channels that he promised - was it specifically mentioned that they would be linear broadcast?

The current ITV HD schedule suggests very little HD programming, regardless of whether it's On Demand or as a channel: http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/index.php/freesat-channels/itv-hd-schedule

But at least if it appeared as a channel, we would get the HD sports, ie FA Cup matches and England Home games!

And Champions League games, too...

Standing up for ITV (a network I don't watch that often) ITV HD has a damn sight more films on than BBC HD. So there's football and films.

Anyway on demand is great news, although I do wonder whether this coincides with the wiping of most of the BBC HD content on vod.

When are these being added? Today?

Nothing's appeared yet. Possibly Monday? None of the reports I read mentioned a start date.

This will be good when it appears!
But is this the reason we have seen a huge reduction in the HD content currently available on demand? Not even 1 full page of HD stuff now!

I think a lot of the programmes are disappearing as deals are expiring with some broadcasters - I don't think it's related to the ITV deal.
In my region I still have the full BBC HD listings, although the HBO/History shows in TV Choice On Demand is shrinking daily.

Bizarrely the BBC stuff has reappeared on mine now. Phew! Must be one of those bits of weirdness other people occasionally have.

Thank you for your interest in Virgin Media’s on demand agreement with ITV. The service will be launched very soon although an exact date has not been finalized. We’re delighted to have signed this agreement and we’ll be working hard to get all this wonderful content for all our viewers as soon as possible. With regards to HD content specifically, rights negotiations continue and programmes will continue to be added throughout the year.
