Sky now "unassailable in pay TV"

Hardly news, but an interesting read nevertheless from The Guardian: Pay TV player BSkyB is winning the war to dominate digital

Obvious really, given Sky's endless pot of money to steal content from anyone with anything of worth, and it's ability to spam the public with tasteless ads until the end of time.

The only way Virgin could compete would be to take Sky on directly, rather than beg for any scraps from the Sky table as it does now. It should have been Virgin who signed HBO up for exclusive content, Living (awful though it is) should be a Virgin exclusive, and they should be pushing HD VOD like there's no tomorrow.

The only ads I ever see from Virgin are them offering bargain basement deals for ultra low end TV, Phone, and Broadband deals. Hardly top tier customers to be going after.

TIVO was a real step in the right direction, but the oozing sore that is the lack of Sky Atlantic almost makes Virgin seem like the sad little has been it was just a year or so ago. They're behind in a big way again sadly.

agree its about time virgin media woke up and smelt the coffee, its all about content, not about boxes what it does and what it does not do.no bloody good if you have not got the content, its like having a rolls with no driving licence looks good but cant do much with it,wake up virgin, dont just keep promising, and keep saying in the future we will have ???,and your stupid excuses saying we have been concentrating on tivo,oh then the red button, just get the content, because what you will end up with is nothing, when people get fed up seeing all this extra stuff going to sky,and all you keep banging on about is tivo, get the content or you will loose more, last chance, ill give it a few more months no change then iam off to.

I agree Virgin Media should be concentrating on greater content rather than flash gadgets (Tivo), what's the point in having Tivo unless you've got the content to watch on it. Virgin Media should concentrate on adding all the major HD channels and Sky Atlantic before pushing Tivo down our throats because at the end of the day what's Tivo without the content.

Goodness, there I was wondering what all these shows I' e got recorded such as House, The Event, NCIS LA, NCIS, Walking Dead, Star gate Universe, Fringe, Dr Who, Campus, Hawaii Five-0, not to mention all my lovely Sky Movies, Film 4, Filmfex on demand, Iplayer in HD...

But then I havent got content, so I bnetter give back my TiVo.

Yep, I agree, it's a pain not having exactly the same number of chanels as Sky is not good, but we've far from 'not got content'.

Sky only really have 1 channel worth having, and even then not everything on it is in HD!

So here I am a sky customer and have been for 20 years + and im toying with making the switch to virgin...
The sky hd box constantly reports errors and failed recordings and crashes and pixalations sky want to charge me to fix it, again! 3rd time over the years twice in the last 5 years, which pushes me towards virgin.
they annoy the hell out of me with the blatantly incorrect advertising over 'fibre optic' broadband an oxy-moron if ever i heard one they dont have sky atlantic but the tivo looks pretty sweet, so given im on the top sky tier what else would i miss please advise kind virgin people!
