Batman Begins was a great action film. It took a lot of guts and originality to kick start a franchise dying on its backside.
The Dark Knight was one of the best action films of the noughties, if not the best depending on opinion, and in fact arguably one of the best action films ever made. Not to mention it gave us one of the most iconic characters in the history of film.
These 2 films are original compared to most other "silly super hero kids nonsense". Which is why they were so well received and loved. Action films first, comic hero second.
To each his own. I've seen both of Nolan's rubber suit films and thought they were both ridiculous. Suspension of disbelief can only go so far, and I've always found so called super hero films to be well over the line.
Neither of them even looked any good, being completely devoid of any of the gothic imagination of flair of the Burton films. They were just a bland modern US city with virtually no additions.

Wonder who is standing in the background when Batman and Bane square off?
365 days and counting.
Was that Two-Face in the hospital bed? In which case no Aaron Eckhart this time!
its Commissioner Gordon in the hospital bed me thinks...
Christopher Nolan is great when he does something unique and creative - Memento, The Prestige, Inception...
Sadly it seems between every original film he goes and makes some silly super hero kids nonsense with men in rubber suits.
I'll check back for his next film.
