Virgin broadband speeds

I don't normally post on VM's broadband offering, but anyone seriously considering Sky or BT for their triple play bundle should check out this BBC article on ISPs failing to deliver on broadband speeds.

I can honestly say in comparison virgins bb compaired to any other company in the uk is years ahead. I pay for the 50mb service and my god is it fast. Have downloaded a 16gb file in 55mins. No other company can come close to this. I also have the phone n telly with em and am told its £114 a month including the hd sports n movies. :)

Yes, VM are very consistent for download speeds (on 50mb too) but I would say their QoS is a bit flaky. We've also got BT 10mb into our house and for streaming video BT is better (everything else VM wins hands down).

It's apples and oranges though - comparing essentially direct-attach built-for-the-purpose FTC (i.e Virgin) to shoddy decades old twisted pair that also goes through a broken (probably) extension line (ADSL, LLU or not).

wow good going VM

im happy i got the 10mb from VM its always atlest that BUT when i joined the woman on the phone told me i would get 50mb for the price of 10mb for 6months but it only seems to get to 20mb ive never seen it pass that, but as im only paying for 10mb and getting atlest 10mb so im happy

shocking to see how bad sky and talk talk did on the isp speed test

(i used to be talk talk)

Loving the 50mb connection. Often hitting full speed on downloads and had only a few hours downtime in the last 9/10 years (since NTL days)

Looking forward to the 100mb they are trialing already and 200mb planned!!!

@Tom...

Just to correct one thing it's not 200mb next year...VM will be launching the 400mb, the trials which are taking place are yielding some fantastic results.

On the original post, theses ADSL providors have been getting away with riddiculas claims on broadband speed for too long..they all agreed to be honest last year (2009), however not one of them tell their customers the truth. Hats off to Ofcom, if they can enforce the changes in the regulations.
