Season one of HBO's
Boardwalk Empire finally has a release date in the US: January 10th 2012! That's over twelve months after it concluded on the US cable network. Of course, by the time it has appeared on disc season two will have finished on HBO and Sky Atlantic. Ridiculous...and they wonder why piracy is rife...

Indeed. It's doubly frustrating for those without access to Sky Atlantic that it takes so long for HBO dramas to be released on DVD.
sky need to lower price a bit and vm up a bit i guess im sure vm will get it sometime just need both sky and vm to move a little on price sky make more money when it on VM from advertisers ect
Quite. At least finally it will be out although this is starting to look like a clear strategy to delay DVD releases in order to put on further pressure to take out a subscription to Atlantic. The problem being that it pressuposes a carrier willing or able (delete as appropriate) to take it ...
I don't think that there's any agenda to force people to go to Sky for Sky Atlantic - HBO have a history of not releasing a season on DVD until shortly before the next season airs on TV.
It's unfortunate coincidence that these happen to be series unavailable to VM.
@campbellg: Boardwalk is particularly late though. As you say, HBO in the US usually release the box set of the previous season in the weeks before the next season starts. With Boardwalk that would have been September for season one, not four months later.
I think the HBO Go service in the US may be a reason for the delay but I can't say with any certainty.
Agreed that Boardwalk's release has been much later than expected - I hope the same isn't true of Game of Thrones, I'm itching to get my hands on that even though that's the one Sky Atlantic series I actually have seen all of.
